Chopper the Biker Dog is resting at home Tuesday after visiting San Diego Police Officer Wade Irwin in the hospital Monday afternoon.
“He brings something special to everybody,” said Mark Shaffer, Chopper’s handler.
Shaffer said Officer Irwin and Chopper walked the halls in the hospital and Irwin spent time petting him. It was their third visit.
“When Chopper rode in on his bike, I could say the whole room pretty much had a smile on their face,” said Shaffer.
Irwin is recovering in the hospital after being shot at a few weeks ago in Logan Heights. His partner, Officer Jonathan DeGuzman, was killed.
“When we were visiting Officer Irwin, you could just see him stroking Chopper’s head nice and slow, and you could see the kind of bond between them,” said Shaffer.
He said their goal was to bring a little happiness to the hospital.
“We were there mostly for support for the family,” said Shaffer.
