ESCONDIDO, Calif. - An 11-year-old girl hid in a closet as an armed man broke into her Escondido home Tuesday morning, according to police.
Escondido police said the girl was alone in the home on Live Oak Road when the incident occurred.
According to police, the girl texted her mother after she noticed someone had entered the house. The girl's mother then called authorities.
Police said the girl hid in a closet on the second floor as the man, who she said was armed with a rifle, ransacked the home.
The man did not see the girl, and police said he abruptly left the house when a phone rang inside the home.
Police are investigating the possibility that two people were involved in the break-in.
The armed man was described as a white, about six feet tall with a buzz haircut, and wearing baggy jeans. He reportedly was driving a newer pickup truck with a chrome diamond-plated toolbox in the truck bed.
