SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Coast Guard officials say a boat that ran aground near Ocean Beach Pier Friday morning was likely used to smuggle.
The 22-foot boat was discovered shortly after 5:30 a.m. next to the pier, off the 5000 block of Niagara Avenue.
Responding lifeguards searched the boat but did not find anyone on board or near the vessel.
One witness told 10News he found six life preservers nearby.
Coast Guard officials said all indications from their investigation pointed to the boat originating from Mexico and used to smuggle people into the U.S.
