LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV)--Seven teens in a pickup truck were hospitalized Monday afternoon after they fled deputies and struck a tree, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
The accident happened on Skyline Drive at Dayton Drive at around 1:30 p.m. after someone reported a disturbance at nearby Berry's Athletic Supply store on Broadway.
Responding deputies followed the black pickup truck southbound on Skyline Drive until it tried to make a sharp turn and struck a Palm tree, officials said.
The teens ranged in age from 13 years old to 16 years old, a deputy said.
Three occupants tried to escape after the car crashed.
All of the teens were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries believed not to be life-threatening, a deputy said.
It is not yet known what led up to the earlier disturbance or why the young occupants fled authorities.
