Two people on a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries Saturday afternoon on a National City freeway, and the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert warning motorists to avoid the area.
The crash was reported on the southbound side of Interstate 5 at the transition to eastbound state Route 54 at about 12:30 p.m., according to the CHP. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A witness told the CHP dispatcher that the motorcycle went airborne and hit a guardrail. The cause was under investigation.
No other injuries were reported, according to a CHP dispatcher.
