LAKESIDE, Calif. – A California Highway Patrol sergeant and a CHP officer were injured when a car containing alcohol and drug paraphernalia collided with their patrol cruiser overnight Thursday in the Lakeside area.

One woman has been arrested on drunken driving charges.

According to CHP, a 2005 Hyundai Accent carrying four people was driving erratically through the neighborhood. At around 1 a.m. Friday, the Hyundai was going west on Julian Avenue when it ran a red light at the intersection with Los Coches Road. The Hyundai slammed into a CHP patrol SUV that was traveling south on Los Coches Road. The cruiser had the green light, CHP reports.

A sergeant and officer in the cruiser were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. They were treated and released. All four occupants of the Hyundai were also transported by ambulance to local hospitals with complaints of pain.

Investigators found alcohol bottles and drug paraphernalia inside the Hyundai and believe drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash, CHP reports.

After being treated at a hospital, the female driver, 19-year-old Cerys C. Mulvey of San Diego, was booked into the Los Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on charges of DUI causing bodily injury.
