LA MESA -- The cause of a two-alarm fire at a liquor store in a La Mesa shopping center late Tuesday night that sent a firefighter the hospital is under investigation.
The blaze at La Mesa Market & Liquor on Lake Murray Boulevard near El Paso Street broke out for unknown reasons around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. Heartland Fire & Rescue crews arrived to find flames shooting out of the top of the store.
The blaze was knocked down about 25 minutes later, according to HF&R.
One firefighter was checked by paramedics at the scene and then transported to a local hospital for treatment. The nature of his injuries were not confirmed.
Lake Murray Boulevard was closed in the immediate area, but was later reopened, according to La Mesa police.
Total damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $800,000. The cause is under investigation. San Diego Fire-Rescue also responded.
