SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As the race for California's 48th Congressional District heats up, the top two candidates are receiving additional support from national political organizers.
On Thursday afternoon, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced that Democratic Candidate Marni von Wilpert had been added to the committee's "Red and Blue" program, which provides candidates with organizational and fundraising support.
The DCCC released the following statement.
Marni von Wilpert has spent her career taking on powerful interests, standing up for working people, and delivering results. She has never backed down from a tough fight, and she’ll bring that same determination to defeating MAGA extremist Jim Desmond, who has embraced the worst of Donald Trump’s agenda while shrugging off the rising costs and challenges facing Southern California families. Marni is poised to flip this critical seat in November, and put an end to GOP chaos and corruption in Washington.
A spokesperson with the National Republican Congressional Committee responded to the news late Thursday afternoon.
Democrats are now circling the wagons around a tax-raising career politician, Marni von Wilpert, who helped make San Diego less affordable and less safe. Democrats know she will be a reliable vote for the same failed radical agenda that has driven families and businesses out of California.
Republican Jim Desmond, who is facing von Wilpert, has been added to the NRCC's "MAGA Majority Program", which also provides resources to candidates.
2026 marks the first election in the 48th Congressional District since California voters approved a proposition to redraw the district.
Proposition 50 was passed after Republicans in Texas redrew their congressional map, a move that California leaders said was designed to favor Republicans.
The passage of Prop 50 increases Democrats' chances of winning an additional five U.S. House seats in the state in November.
