SANTEE, Calif. - A local mother is hoping to spread the word about a frightening discovery at a park in Santee.

Tami Peterson and her three sons were at Mast Park on Tuesday morning when she and her boyfriend noticed something in the grass.

"There were kids running without shoes. I was watching my kids ride their bikes on the trail when we saw some shiny gold tacks. I saw at least 50 of them; almost all of them were pointing up," said Peterson.

Peterson took photos of the tacks after she collected them. She said the tacks were spread out over an area near a picnic table and many of them were covered by leaves.

"I had to kick the leaves around to find all the tacks," said Peterson.

The tacks flattened a tire on each of the bikes her sons were riding.

"The way they were placed, I feel they were put out intentionally," said Peterson.

Those tacks were pointed up, spread out, and hidden.

An upset Peterson immediately thought of the numerous reports of razors being discovered at local parks.

"I fear that somebody was out to hurt little kids," said Peterson.

Peterson called the city's Recreation Services department. She and others who saw the tacks posted the incident on social media sites like the East County Emergency Updates Facebook page.

"I'd like to bring my kids and feel safe, and now that I found all of these things, I don't," said Peterson.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Santee sheriff's substation.
