Marines join fight for answers after veteran found murdered in Belize

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of Marine is banning together to get answers in the wake of a murder mystery in Belize.

On Monday, the bodies of former Camp Pendleton Marine Drew DeVoursney and his Canadian girlfriend Francesca Matus were found in a sugar cane field in the Corozal district of Belize.  Authorities say the were tied up and strangled, but their belongings and valuables were not taken.

DeVoursney's served from 2003 to 2011 as a data network specialist.  His last assignment was at Camp Pendleton.

After his death, his best friend and fellow Marine Brandon Barfield began a Gofundme campaign to "get at the truth."  

He told 10news he and group of other Marines plan to hire a private investigator and begin their own probe to make sure the answers come out.
