VISTA, Calif. (KGTV)-- A man is dead following a deputy-involved shooting Wednesday morning, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting was reported at 10:16 a.m. near the 200 block Knoll Road, authorities said.

Deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station said they recognized a passenger in a green Buick as a 24-year-old Hispanic man who had an active felony warrant for his arrest on the 300 block of North Melrose.

The suspect fled on foot before deputies could try to stop the Buick. He ran east, jumping over fences and through yards, authorities said.

The deputies lost sight of the suspect and began to establish a perimeter when one of them spotted the suspect in the yard of a home on Knoll Road. The deputy chased him into the yard where there was a confrontation between the suspect and the deputy. The deputy fired his weapon multiple times, striking the man, deputies said.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man died of his injuries at the scene.

Sheriff's homicide department and the Vista Sheriff's Station are investigating the incident.
