Three men distract Santee cashier, steal thousands in gift cards, Sheriff's deputies say

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Investigators are searching for three men who stole thousands of dollars in gift cards from an East County Santee last month.

Santee Sheriff's Station investigators said three men entered the Walmart at 170 Town Center Parkway in Santee on Oct. 25 and approached a cashier with eight Visa gift cards. The men requested each card be loaded with $500 each.

One of the men distracted the cashier by requesting a pack of cigarettes. When the cashier left to get the cigarettes, one of the men reached over and pressed a key to activate the cards, officials said.

A third man then grabbed the bag containing the cards and other merchandise and fled with the other two men without paying, according to investigators.

The loss is estimated to be valued at $4,065.

The suspects were each described as black males in their 20s, last seen wearing white t-shirts and black shorts. Sheriff's officials say they fled in an older model Ford Crown Victoria, with a white front left fender and purple tinted windows. It didn't have any license plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call Santee Sheriff's Station at 619-956-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
