RANCHO PENASQUITOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- An hours-long standoff came to an end overnight, but no criminal charges have been filed.

SWAT responders were called to the 9300 block of Vervain Street just after 8 p.m. Monday when a man locked himself in the bathroom of his home, while three children were still inside.

The children's mother told 10News it all started with some threatening text messages, prompting her to call the police. San Diego Police said the man locked his wife outside of their home and wouldn't comply with requests to exit the home.

Based on the man's statements police called in SWAT officers and emergency negotiators, according to SDPD.

Eventually, negotiators were able to talk the man out of the house. No children were harmed during the incident.

The man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Police said he's not being charged with any crimes since he technically didn't break any laws.
