Sheriff's officials said La Mesa police spotted a Ford sedan Thursday stopped at a green light. When an officer approached the car, a scream was heard and the sedan sped off. San Diego police joined LMPD in pursuit of the vehicle from La Mesa to Lemon Grove.
Eventually, the car stopped and three men got out and fled, authorities said. According to officials, one of the men was spotted jumping over a fence, followed by the sound of gunshots, officials said. Officers said they spotted the same man behind a home a short time later and released a K-9.
As the K-9 was engaged with the man, later identified as 19-year-old Isaias Raziel Ochoa, Ochoa reportedly began firing on officers. Two LMPD officers, one SDPD officer, and a SDSO deputy returned fire, striking the Ochoa.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's officials said another man was taken into custody after the incident.
