LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Singer-actress Brandy became ill on a Delta Airlines flight that was about to take off from Los Angeles International Airport today and was taken to a hospital and released after being treated for apparent exhaustion.
The 38-year-old performer, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, was on an early flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City and lost consciousness before the plane pulled out of the gate.
A statement from Delta said the flight crew of flight 763 "returned to the gate, prior to departure, after a customer fell ill on board. Medical personnel met the flight and transported the customer to a local hospital. Flight 763 departed for New York roughly 45 minutes behind schedule."
Representatives for the singer released a statement blaming the situation on exhaustion, but said she was treated at the hospital and "is now at home resting."
"She has been traveling extensively as part of an ongoing tour and several personal appearances," according to her representatives.
"In recent days she has taken more than 10 long-haul flights including internationally. She was in the studio all night last night until it was time for her to leave for the airport to catch a 5:45 a.m. flight.
"The stress of all of the traveling and working so incessantly has exhausted her. She will be relaxing for the next few days."
Asked about the medical call, Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department said earlier she could not confirm the name of any patients, but said paramedics responded to an "unspecified" call at LAX at 6:17 a.m., and an ambulance took someone from the airport to a hospital.
