SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A traffic controller was hit by a speeding vehicle Wednesday while directing traffic near the San Diego Convention Center.
San Diego Police said the special event traffic controller was trying to direct the driver of a truck through traffic at 1st Avenue and Harbor Drive just before 2:30 p.m., when a verbal dispute erupted.
The driver became angry and accelerated quickly toward the traffic guard, SDPD said.
Witnesses told police the driver purposely swerved toward the guard, striking them in the head with the mirror of the truck.
The guard's injuries are considered to be minor.
The driver fled the scene. Police described the suspected truck as a full size, lifted black truck with after market rims.
It was unclear if the driver was just passing by the convention center or in the area to take part in San Diego Comic-Con activities for preview night Wednesday.
SDPD detectives are currently investigating the incident.
