SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego sailor is being investigated in connection with the discovery of a cache of child pornography, court documents revealed.
Petty Officer 1st Class John Christian Ward is being investigated for knowingly possessing child pornography, according to court documents obtained by 10News.
The documents say the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children task force was made aware of the cache by Google on May 1, after the search provider reported an email address uploaded nearly 50 images possibly containing child pornography on eight separate dates from May 29 to April 19.
Google identified the user associated with the email address as "John Ward" from San Diego, documents said, and that metadata showed at least one photograph had been captured at or near Ward's San Diego home.
On Nov. 8, a Naval criminal investigator said they completed their investigation of the email account linked to Ward, found to contain more than 100 photos of child pornography.
Federal agents served a search warrant on Nov. 16 for Ward's residence. Documents said no devices were seized from his home, but Ward was arrested last week.
He has pleaded not guilty and is due in court next week.
