SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Consumers are now opening their wallets for Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back.

The day began in 2012 and was started by 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation.

A number of San Diego charities are participating in Giving Tuesday this year.

All San Diego Chipotles are donating 50 percent of their proceeds to the Rady Children’s Hospital from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

San Diego State University and the American Red Cross are also partnering up at the Viejas arena with the goal of collecting 400 pints of blood in an event called the Aztecs for Life Blood Drive. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The San Diego Humane Society is also participating in Giving Tuesday. Those interested can donate to the humane society by clicking here.
