County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced Monday that his office has added a website feature to allow San Diegans to pay property taxes using their mobile devices.

He said the bills can be paid electronically by e-check or credit card at www.sdtreastax.com.

"You can pay with your mobile device -- whatever device you have, wherever you are, whenever you want," McAllister said. "Our new and improved mobile platform makes it easier to read, easier to access, and easier to pay."

Nearly 987,000 property tax bills were being mailed beginning Monday -- almost 2,300 more than last year. Combined, they total $5.37 billion -- around $295 million more than last year, according to McAllister.

The first installment is due Nov. 1 and is delinquent if paid after Dec. 10, he said. Payments can be made online, by phone at (855) 829-3773, or in person by visiting county offices in downtown San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Kearny Mesa and San Marcos.
