North County homeowner loses family heirlooms after burglar smashes patio door

RANCHO PENASQUITOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A Rancho Penasquitos woman is missing some priceless family heirlooms after a messy crime spree.

Off Poway Road, Gloria Bassik returned home Tuesday afternoon and found her patio door in pieces.

Inside her bedroom, dozens of pieces of gold and diamond jewelry were gone, including a watch belonging to her deceased mother and a piece given to her by her husband some 50 years ago.

Police believe that same day, the burglar hit 3 other homes in Rancho Penasquitos, damaging either the patio or a back door.

Detectives aren't revealing why, but they do believe the cases are linked to a recent series of break-ins in the Poway area.
