SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A new, temporary dog park opened for business Saturday in Normal Heights as part of Ward Canyon Park, about a year after residents held a rally urging city officials for the park's expansion.
San Diego City Council Member Todd Gloria was joined by members of the community and their four-legged friends for today's ribbon cutting ceremony.
The 20,500-square-foot park sits on an area that was previously undeveloped and will be used until a permanent expansion can be built. The fenced-in area provides room for both large and small dogs to play together off
leash. It is located at 3905 Adams Ave.
The interim park was installed after more than 1,000 residents signed a petition requesting a place for their dogs to play. A permanent expansion project was estimated to cost about $8 million, but funding has not yet been
approved by the City of San Diego.
