SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A mother from Santee gave her 9-year-old daughter the surprise of her lifetime on Wednesday after school.
Krista Metz planned the surprise with the school principal at Hillcreek Elementary.
Her husband, James Metz has served in the Navy for 21 years. He's a senior chief who was stationed in Bahrain for the last year.
Although the family has been apart for the last year, the last month has been the hardest. Krista survived the shooting at the Route 91 concert in Las Vegas. She was at the concert with her cousins.
On Wednesday, Metz returned from his deployment. The couple surprised their 9-year-old daughter. James showed up to pick her up from school with a bouquet of pink flowers.
The navy sailor says he hopes to be hope for "a long time".
