Motorcyclist in fatal Kearny Mesa crash identified

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The county Medical Examiner has identified the man who died in a motorcycle crash Monday night.

Robert Mitchell Briscoe, 49, of Valley Center, and another passenger were traveling along westbound State route 52 near Convoy Street just after 8 p.m., when Briscoe rear-ended a Honda Civic. He and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle, the Medical Examiner said. 

Briscoe's motorcycle was struck by a Hyundai sedan shortly after the collision, landing on the shoulder of SR-52 and bursting into flames.

A bystander called paramedics, but Briscoe died at the scene.

The status of the passenger on the motorcycle was not given, but she was taken to Scripps Memorial with major injuries.

No injuries were reported for the passengers of the vehicle struck. Police said the Honda Civic was traveling at about 55 mph, while the motorcycle was traveling at abut 73 mph at the time of the crash.
