A desperate mother is pleading for answers after her Army veteran was found with his legs crushed on a Chula Vista road.

"It's tough; a mother never wants to go through this. It's devastating think how long he was left there," said April Alva.

Around 11 a.m. Thursday, 24-year-old Carlos Villegas was on his motorcycle, headed home from a haircut, when his mother got the call.

"At that moment, my heart … crushed," said Alva.

Villegas was discovered in the center divider of Olympic Parkway near Otay Ranch High School, with grisly injuries.

"He has so many broken bones. He has internal bleeding in the neck. He may need another surgery," said Alva.

When Villegas -- in and out of sedation -- was asked what happened, the Army vet and Southwestern College student told his family that someone clipped him.

Villegas was found about 25 feet away from his bike.

Villegas apparently flew off his bike, but investigators are still trying to figure out why.

A preliminary police investigation shows Villegas may been trying to pass someone.

"That doesn't add up," said Alva.

According to the family, doctors believe someone ran over Villegas because his legs were so crushed -- virtually all layers of muscle destroyed. It's unclear if he'll make a full recovery.

As Alva tends to her son, she waits for answers.

"I just beg for help. Anybody who has seen anything, please step up," said Alva.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Chula Vista police.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help with Villegas' medical bills.
