SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman suspected of drunken driving crashed her car into several vehicles on a College Area street Friday, injuring herself and her young son in the incident.

Residents in the 3500 block of College Avenue told police they heard what sounded like a multi-vehicle crash at around 12:15 a.m. When they rushed to the scene, they saw a car had apparently crossed the median, drove in the wrong direction and slammed into several parked cars.

An unconscious woman and a crying boy were inside the smoking wreckage and witnesses broke windows to get the pair out of the vehicle.

The woman was alert when paramedics arrived, and witnesses said she kept yelling for her sister, who was never inside the car.

The woman and her son were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police said they arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence.

10News learned the boy is in the custody of family members.
