Man stabbed in City Heights confrontation dies; Suspect on loose

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man found suffering from stab wounds in an alley a block away from a City Heights high school last month has died.

On Aug. 26, Efren Jimenez Gonzalez, 34, was found suffering from stab wounds to the head and chest in the 4200 block of 45th Street, just a block south of Herbert Hoover High School, according to San Diego Police.

Police said a responding officer began CPR on Gonzalez until San Diego Fire and Rescue paramedic arrived to take over. Gonzalez was transported to Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hospital staff determined Gonzalez would not survive without the help of life support.

On Friday, Gonzalez was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, who was wearing a blue or purple landscaping uniform, according to SDPD.
