Man shot to death in Oceanside neighborhood

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - A man was fatally shot early Friday morning in an Oceanside neighborhood.

Police responded to calls of a disturbance in the 1700 block South Myers St. just after 4:30 a.m. Multiple callers reported hearing shots fired, followed by a person yelling for help, according to Oceanside police Lt. Valencia Saadat.

Several neighbors were awakened by the gunshots and cries for help.  Linda LaVie told 10News, “I heard two loud shots, like bang, bang and it was very loud and I said, ‘Those are gunshots!’”
 
Jenna Bisone said, “We heard a couple of gunshots and some guy screaming for help… at least twice, really loud.”

Officer arrived to the scene to find a 45-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he later died just after 5:30 a.m., Lt. Saadat said.

The victim's identity has not been released, pending notification of family members. Police said he was a Oceanside resident.

Police said they do not believe gang activity was a factor. A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
