ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A homeless man was arrested Friday after reportedly trying to lure a child away from a preschool.

San Diego County Sheriff's deputies received a call just after 10:30 a.m. Friday of a suspicious man outside the front gate of a preschool on La Mesa Avenue. The man reportedly attempted to lure an 11-year-old child outside the school's gated area, SDSO Sgt. Scott Bligh said in a statement.

An initial report indicated the child was three-years-old. This was later corrected by SDSO.

The suspect was not successful in luring the child away and left the area. After deputies searched the area, he was located a short distance away from the school by deputies at Moonlight Beach.

The man was found to be a homeless man from Milwaukee, Wisc., who came to the area by train. He has been in the area for about three days, SDSO said.

The man was arrested for annoying a child and booked in to the Vista Detention Facility.

Police did not identify the man.
