Man airlifted to hospital following Vista house fire

Sheriff's Bomb Arson unit called in to investigate

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - One person was airlifted to a nearby hospital after a fire at a North County home Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 9 a.m. in the 1600 block of Sunrise Drive at Rudd Road. Vista Fire Department (VFD) crews arrived to find smoke pouring out from the home and visible flames. Crews were able to contain the fire within 10 minutes.

Crews searched the home after reports that someone may be inside but didn't locate anyone. One person was found outside the home. The patient was airlifted to a local hospital. The severity of their injuries was not disclosed. 

VFD personnel said they will be on scene throughout the morning to be sure the fire is extinguished.

Due to the nature of the fire, VFD said the Sheriff's Bomb Arson unit has been requested to assist in the fire investigation.

Crews from Carlsbad and Oceanside Fire Departments as well as the Sheriff Department and San Diego Gas and Electric also assisted in stamping out the fire.
