CARLSBAD (KGTV) — Authorities are reporting that the Intersection of El Camino Real and Carlsbad Village Drive is shut down because of a water main break in the area. The City of Carlsbad and the Carlsbad Municipal Water District declared a state of local emergency early Saturday to speed up emergency repairs to the water main and road in the area of the break.
According to the City of Carlsbad, crews determined that extensive repairs are needed to fix the break and reopen the closed lanes. Repairs are underway, but the city anticipated that it will take at least 36 hours to get the area operational. The city says other infrastructure repairs may take longer.
“When issues arise that affect public safety and quality of life, we work as quickly as possible to address them for our community. We realize this is a high-traffic area for our residents and surrounding communities and want to be sure we are doing everything possible to expedite these repairs,” said Geoff Patnoe, Carlsbad City Manager and Carlsbad Municipal Water District Executive Manager.
There are additional surrounding closures in the area and no injuries have been reported.
When 10News asked about the cause of the water break, they responded that crews had not uet determined the cause of the water main break, and crews had not been able to expose the pipe yet as they were working on other repairs.
This is a developing story.
