UPDATE (March 20, 8:30 a.m.): The San Diego-based USS Boxer is one of three warships on their way to the Middle East as the conflict in the region escalates.

A U.S. official told The Associated Press that the USS Boxer and two other amphibious assault ships, along with roughly 2,500 Marines of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, are bound for the Middle East from their home port of San Diego.

Two other U.S. officials confirmed that the ships were deploying, without saying where they were headed.

(KGTV) — A U.S. Navy ship left San Diego this week, headed to the Indo-Pacific.

The Navy says that the USS Boxer, along with its amphibious readiness group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is conducting routine operations in the Pacific.

The Navy wouldn’t confirm if the Boxer will eventually head to the war in the Middle East.

The Boxer is one of several San Diego-based carriers.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently in the Middle East.
