ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A pickup truck driven by a 15-year-old unlicensed driver crashed into the garage door of an Escondido home Tuesday, injuring a man who was sleeping inside the garage.

According to Escondido police, the crash happened just after 5 p.m. at a home in the 1700 block of South Maple Street.

Police said the 15-year-old was driving up the driveway of the home when he stopped in front of the closed garage door. However, police said the teen did not put the truck in park and pressed on the gas pedal, instead of the brakes.

The truck barreled into the metal garage door, causing it to fall on a man sleeping on a bed inside the garage and leaving him trapped.

Paramedics removed the man and took him to the hospital with severe injuries to his back. He was listed in stable condition, police said.

The teen driver and his 17-year-old sister, who was a passenger in the truck, were not injured.

The crash is under investigation, and police said alcohol or drugs were not considered to be factors in the incident.
