Suspect in deadly Spring Valley shooting arrested

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) – A suspect in a shooting in Spring Valley that left a 27-year-old man dead was arrested, sheriff’s officials announced Friday.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said 22-year-old Carlos Davis, of La Mesa, was taken into custody Thursday night in connection with the shooting death of Carlo Avila.

According to sheriff’s officials, Davis is accused of fatally shooting Avila early Thursday morning in an alley near the 8900 block of Delrose Avenue.

Deputies responding to a 911 call regarding gunfire in the area found Avila unresponsive on the ground with major injuries. Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful, and Avila was pronounced dead at the scene.

10News was there as Avila’s father arrived at the scene and pleaded with deputies for information.

Sheriff’s officials did not immediately release information on what led investigators to identify Davis as the suspect in the case. He was arrested by members of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force.
