(KGTV) - Sears in Chula Vista will shut down by February 2020, the chain’s parent company said Thursday.

“Since purchasing substantially all the assets of Sears Holdings Corporation in February 2019, Transformco has faced a difficult retail environment and other challenges,” the company wrote in a news release.

In all, 96 Sears and Kmart stores will be closed nationwide starting December 2, according to Transformco. When the process ends next year, the company will operate 182 remaining stores.

The Chula Vista store at 565 Broadway was the only San Diego County location on the list of closures. A store employee declined to comment on the matter Thursday.

The Sears on Winchester Road in Temecula will also close, Transformco said.

The company also said the closing stores would offer going-out-of-business sales.
