OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two men with gunshot wounds were found in a car in Otay Mesa late Thursday night, and responding officers discovered a teenage girl inside the trunk of the vehicle during the investigation, San Diego police said.

Just before 11 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting victim at Palm and Twining avenues. When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds inside a white Chevrolet Camaro.

The 21-year-old driver was unresponsive after he had been shot in the chest, while a 22-year-old passenger suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle.

Both victims were transported to the hospital, but the driver was pronounced dead on arrival. The passenger’s injuries were not life-threatening.

During the investigation, police discovered a 16-year-old girl in the trunk of the Camaro, and she was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated. There is no word on how she ended up in the trunk.

10News learned the injured passenger told police the shooting took place near Kerns Street and Drucker Lane. Investigators went to the scene and recovered several shell casings.

The investigation is ongoing, but police said the shooting may have been preceded by an altercation in the area of Drucker Lane and Siempre Viva Road.
