SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The parents of a five-year-old boy are trying to find out how their son was dropped off at the wrong bus stop on Monday afternoon.

Chelees Turner said her son Jake was supposed to be dropped off at his bus stop at Horace Mann Middle School, but he never showed up.

Turner said Monday was the first day of a new route and new bus stop. Thinking she had misunderstood the new details, Turner said she drove to the old bus stop to look for her son.

Turner explained that when she showed up, another parent told her he had seen Jake at an entirely different school bus stop, at Edison Elementary School.

Turner said she feared the worst, thinking that her son had been taken by a stranger. She drove to Edison Elementary and found Jake in tears at the front of the school all by himself.

San Diego Unified School District officials sent 10News the following statement about what happened:

This was an unfortunate isolated incident and we take this matter very seriously. The district has reached out to the family to apologize, and is reviewing the situation to ensure that proper protocols are followed going forward. The employee responsible will be held accountable. The district is committed to ensuring the safety of its students.

On Tuesday, the bus showed up at the correct bus stop, although it was about 25 minutes late.

Turner said her trust is broken and if the problems continue, her son will no longer ride the bus.
