SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An unsealed federal grand jury indictment revealed 33-year-old Brandon McGibbon, a San Diego Police Officer, was charged with five counts of child sexual abuse offenses involving three minor victims.
According to court records, McGibbon is accused of "engaging in the attempted receipt and production of child pornography and the attempted enticement and coercion of the minors to engage in obscene matter and sexual conduct" between Oct. 25 and Nov. 6 2025.
Prosecutors say McGibbon targeted teenage girls on social media apps such as Snapchat.
Court documents show he offered girls gift cards in exchange for explicit photos and videos.
Investigators have identified at least three victims but believe there could be many more across the country.
San Diego Police released this statement to ABC 10News regarding the allegations:
Allegations of this nature are deeply concerning. From the moment we learned of this investigation, SDPD has fully cooperated with federal investigators and assisted as requested. McGibbon was suspended and his police powers were removed. We hold our officers to the highest standards, and these allegations do not reflect the great work of the men and women of the San Diego Police Department. This is an ongoing federal investigation, so any further questions will need to be directed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
McGibbon has been with the department for 6 years.
McGibbon has been suspended and is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court on Tuesday, May 26.
