SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday night for reportedly attacking several people with a machete after driving under the influence, police say.

According to police, the suspect, Ian Smigels, 25, was driving his car recklessly in a parking lot on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard around 9:20 p.m.

Police say several men in their 40s were almost hit by Smigels while walking through the parking lot.

Smigels then reportedly got out of his car with a machete and started swinging it at the victims.

One of the men was struck in the forehead while the other was hit in the nose. Both injuries were non-life threatening.

The victims were able hold Smigels down until police arrived. Smigels was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and DUI.
