High winds brought down a small sailboat in Oceanside. Oceanside Police said that the owner lost control of his sailboat and crashed into the jetty around 6 a.m. Local boat owners said he was extremely fortunate to survive the crash unharmed.
“He could have gone off the boat, and slammed right into the rocks, so he is very very lucky,” Oceanside resident Joe Gregory said.
Inclement weather continued throughout the day in North County, causing several pockets of roadside flooding.
More than 1,000 homes experienced power outages in North Vista in the evening hours, according to SDG&E.
On North Broadway near Calvin Christian School in Escondido, roadside flooding caused drivers to go through the area cautiously.
Just before 6 p.m., water inundated the 78 East on-ramp at El Camino Real in North Carlsbad, forcing CalTrans to close down the on-ramp and the #3 lane on the eastbound CA-78.
Crews were able to divert the water to a nearby creek. The on-ramp reopened at 8:30 pm.
