Police: Suspected drunken driver hits, kills pedestrian in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman suspected of being under the influence of alcohol hit and killed a pedestrian in Oceanside Sunday morning, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian on the 3300 block of Oceanside Boulevard around 2:30 a.m.

When they arrived, officers found the pedestrian lying in the westbound lanes of Oceanside Boulevard with a head injury. “Despite life saving measures, the female pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said.

According to police, the woman was walking in the eastbound lanes of Oceanside Boulevard when she was struck by a minivan.

The driver, only identified as a 43-year-old woman, stopped at the scene and called police.

“An evaluation of the driver found the 43-year-old female was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested on scene,” police said.

The name of the victim hasn’t been released at this time.
