VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A man on a motorized wheelchair was struck by a Sprinter train and killed in Vista Thursday morning, sheriff’s officials confirmed.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said the incident occurred on train tracks near the intersection of Main Street and South Santa Fe Avenue.

Responding deputies arrived at the scene and found the unidentified victim dead after being hit by a westbound Sprinter train.

In a post on X/Twitter just after 11 a.m., North County Transit District officials initially stated: “Due to a trespasser incident, all eastbound SPRINTER service from Vista Transit Center and all westbound SPRINTER service from Vista Civic Center is halted at this time. BREEZE bus 2725 will provide passage between both stations.”

Service resumed at around 12:50 p.m., per NCTD.

The sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit will investigate the incident.
