SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for the gunman in a shooting in Linda Vista that left a 16-year-old boy dead Thursday evening.
San Diego police did not immediately release the victim’s name, only identifying him as a 16-year-old Hispanic male.
According to police, the shooting happened in the 6500 block of Kelly Street at around 6:05 p.m. Streets in the area were soon blocked off as police conducted their investigation.
Police said they learned a confrontation took place between a driver in his car and the victim, who was on the street or sidewalk with a group of friends.
The teen was shot after words were exchanged, police said.
The suspected shooter, described as a heavy-set Asian man between 28-32 years old, drove away in a tan or gold four-door Honda or Nissan sedan with a black stripe.
The victim's friends took him to the hospital, but the teen died from his injuries.
Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect or the incident to come forward.
