CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — Carlsbad Police are searching for victims of a local rental scheme.

Carlsbad Police arrested 46-year-old David Fino, of Illinois, in connection with several theft and fraud charges related to a vacation rental scam.

Police said while Fino rented a condominium in Carlsbad in December 2019, he is accused of stealing appliances and electronic equipment from the unit.

Fino is also accused of posing as the rental property owner and re-renting the property by placing online ads on Craigslist, Sublet, and VRBO. Police say he would then contract with potential renters and fraudulently accept online down payments.

Police say there are at least six victims who worked with Fino, but believe there could be more.

Fino was arrested in Pala, Calif., without incident and is being held at Vista Detention facility on $120,000 bail.

Anyone who believes they are a victim of this rental scheme is asked to call Carlsbad Police and then report their case to Detective Dzung Luc at 760-931-2173.
