NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - Four people suffered burn-related injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in National City Monday.

The crash occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on northbound I-5 near Civic Center Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to authorities, a Ford F-150 stalled in the roadway before an oncoming SUV slammed into it. The SUV burst into flames after the collision.

CHP officials said two more vehicles then became involved in the wreck.

The driver of the Ford truck was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries while four other people, including a child, were burned in the crash.

Nine people in all were taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.

The collision forced the closure of northbound I-5 lanes in the immediate area, but all affected lanes were reopened early Tuesday morning.
