New details released in deadly San Marcos hit-and-run

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has released new information after a hit-and-run in San Marcos left a 61-year-old woman dead.

Based on evidence left at the scene, the department believes the suspect vehicle is an unknown color Ford Econoline series E-150, E-250, or E-350 van or truck.

The department says the vehicle should have damage to the front bumper and grille.

Helen Gomez was walking her dog on the 300 block of Smilax Road on April 15 around 8:20 p.m. when she was hit.

Neighbors who heard the crash bolted out to see what happened. Gomez was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
