SANTEE, Calif. (CNS) - A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with another vehicle in Santee, and authorities said Tuesday that impaired driving might have been a factor.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office responded around 1:50 p.m. Monday to reports that a pickup truck and a motorcycle had collided at the intersection of North Magnolia Avenue and the on-ramp to state Route 67.

Responding deputies found the injured motorcycle rider on an embankment adjacent to the roadway. A passerby assisted deputies in applying a tourniquet to the rider to control bleeding, according to the sheriff's office.

The motorcyclist was then taken to a trauma center for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene, and was evaluated and treated by medical personnel.

The names and ages of both parties involved have not been released.

Sheriff's officials said they believe that driving under the influence was a contributing factor in the collision.

Authorities urged anyone with additional information about the accident to call the sheriff's Santee station at 619-956-4000.
