LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) – A man walking on the freeway in Lemon Grove Wednesday evening was struck by multiple vehicles and subsequently died from his injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to CHP officials, the incident occurred at around 8:45 p.m. on the eastbound side of state Route 94, near College Avenue.

A 27-year-old woman driving a Nissan Altima swerved to the left when she spotted an unidentified man walking across the freeway.

However, the driver was unable to avoid him and struck the man, CHP officials said.

CHP officials said, “Following the initial collision, the pedestrian was struck several more times by four to five additional vehicles.”

The motorists involved stopped and reported the incident.

The man died at the scene “due to the blunt force trauma sustained,” according to the CHP.

CHP officials noted the driver of the Altima was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It’s not known if the deceased man was under the influence or why he was walking on the freeway lanes.
