Man shot in leg while walking in San Diego's East Village

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was shot early Friday morning as he walked in the East Village, according to police.

San Diego police said the shooting was reported at around 1:07 a.m. in the 1600 block of J Street.

The 42-year-old victim was walking north on the sidewalk when someone opened fire, striking him once in the leg.

According to police, the victim did not immediately call authorities about the shooting. He instead had a friend take him to the hospital for treatment.

10News learned the victim reported the incident to police about an hour later.

The victim said he did not believe he was the target of the shooting and does not know why he was shot. His injuries were considered non-life threatening.

A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately available.
