Homicide investigation underway after man dies in Southcrest Community Park

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a man died in Southcrest Community Park late Friday night.

Police were called to the scene after a passerby found a man with trauma and, possibly gunshot injuries to his upper body laying on the 1300 block of South 40th Street just after 10 p.m.

San Diego Fire-Rescue was also called to the scene and began life-saving efforts, but police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say very little is known about the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The victim has been identified, but police haven't released his name at this time. He is known to frequent the area, police say.
