LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was killed early Tuesday morning after his vehicle rolled over off state Route 67 and crashed into a boulder, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officials said a 45-year-old Spring Valley man was driving his Ford Explorer on northbound SR-67 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle near Foster Truck Trail.
The vehicle veered off the roadway, went airborne and then overturned down an embankment. The Explorer struck a large boulder and then came to rest, CHP officials said.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash site, but the driver – who was not identified – died from his injuries at the scene.
CHP officials said it is believed the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the wreck.
